Helping renters experiencing violence stay safe: new training for frontline workers

8 June 2026

New free training aims to keep more people experiencing family violence safely housed

A new free training is helping frontline professionals better support renters experiencing family violence to stay safely housed.

Developed by Women’s Legal Service Victoria and Justice Connect, the self‑paced, online training focuses on Victorian rental protections and how they apply in real situations.

Workers supporting people through family violence and housing stress are often navigating urgent, complex questions, from whether someone can stay safely in their home, to how to leave a rental or end a lease early.

The training brings together practical guidance to support these decisions. It covers options for staying in a rental and improving safety, leaving a property, supporting someone through the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), and connecting with legal help.

Designed for professionals across the community, housing and family violence sectors, the training does not require a legal background.

This training aims to support clearer conversations about safety and housing and help more people experiencing family violence remain safely housed.
