Family violence duty lawyer intensive

A three‑day intensive to building trauma‑informed skills in advice, advocacy and court representation. Includes a simulated court day before a Magistrate.

At the end of the training, you will: 

  • Understand how to use the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 (Vic) to advise and assist clients. 
  • Explain the family violence intervention order process to clients. 
  • Understand intersectionality and how to work with clients who face additional barriers to justice and how this can affect their experience of the court and legal system. 
  • Identify how the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 (Vic) interacts with the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth), provide advice to clients and make submissions to the court regarding these matters. 
  • Apply your gained knowledge and skills to effectively advocate for clients. 
  • Identify relevant services for your clients and collaborate with other practitioners/organisations in Victoria’s family violence response system to provide holistic assistance.

Who is this for?

Community legal centre lawyers who want to commence or have recently started to provide family violence duty lawyer services.

Details

This training runs over three days and is held online and in-person in Melbourne's CBD. You must be able to attend all 3 days. This training is delivered through our online learning platform. You’ll be taken there to enrol.
