With more than 15 years' experience spanning executive leadership, law reform, public policy, communications, governance, movement-building and national advocacy campaigns, Roj has built a reputation for bringing together diverse coalitions to influence government, shape public debate and deliver systemic change.
At Women's Legal, Roj leads the organisation's policy, advocacy and communications portfolio, providing strategic leadership across law reform, public affairs, government relations, media engagement, fundraising and stakeholder partnerships. She works closely with government, parliamentarians, sector leaders, philanthropy and community organisations to advance reforms that improve outcomes for women and non-binary people experiencing family violence, sexual violence discrimination and other barriers to justice.
Her work focuses on translating evidence, frontline service expertise and lived experience into practical policy solutions and influential advocacy. She has led high-profile advocacy initiatives on family violence, access to justice, legal assistance, women's economic security and gender equality, while strengthening Women's Legal's role as a trusted voice in public policy debates and legislative reform. She is known for her ability to navigate complex political environments, build consensus across diverse stakeholders and develop advocacy strategies that achieve meaningful impact.
Roj also serves as Co-Chair of the Victorian Community Legal Centre Family Violence Working Group, representing 26 community legal centres across Victoria. In this role, she works with member organisations to develop sector-wide policy positions, coordinate law reform advocacy and provide leadership on some of the most significant family violence and access to justice issues facing victim-survivors.
Prior to joining Women's Legal, Roj was Chief Campaigns Officer at GetUp, where she led national campaign strategy, political positioning and fundraising for one of Australia's largest advocacy organisations. She oversaw campaigns engaging millions of Australians and was responsible for aligning political strategy, public engagement and fundraising to maximise organisational impact.
Earlier in her career, she held senior leadership roles at Justice Connect, where she led engagement, advocacy and communications, and directed brand, fundraising and stakeholder engagement strategies during a period of significant organisational growth and transformation. She also led major human rights, refugee rights and racial justice campaigns, including establishing and growing Colour Code, a movement of First Nations people and people of colour advocating for racial justice, doubling its membership base within a year and leading nationally recognised campaigns on anti-racism, migrant rights and police accountability.
Alongside her executive leadership, Roj has an extensive governance background. She currently serves on the Steering Committee of the Law and Advocacy Centre for Women, providing strategic advice on organisational direction, partnerships, sustainability and future growth, and has previously served as Chair of the Human Rights Arts & Film Festival and Overland Literary Journal.
A recognised public commentator, writer and speaker, Roj has contributed to national conversations on human rights, social justice and public policy through major media outlets, conferences, festivals and public forums across Australia. Her work has brought together advocacy, storytelling and political strategy to help shift public narratives and influence decision-makers.
Roj is committed to intersectional, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approaches to leadership and reform. She is passionate about ensuring that the voices of communities most affected by injustice are centred in the policies, laws and systems that shape their lives.
