Intersections: Family Violence and Women on Visas

Intersections: Family Violence and Women on Visas

Conditions on migration visas can make it difficult for women who are experiencing family violence to seek help or leave their partner. Intersections: family violence and women on visas training will provide you with information and strategies to support women experiencing family violence while on a temporary visa.

At the end of the training, you will:

  • Understand barriers faced by women on temporary visas experiencing family violence.
  • Identify migration issues in your client’s family violence legal issue.
  • Understand the family violence provisions in the Migration Act 1958 (Cth), how they apply, and process of raising a family violence claim.
  • Build confidence and ability to ask clients about their visa status and identify legal issues.
  • Identify the evidence needed to establish a family violence exemption.
  • Understand the barriers clients may face providing evidence.
Who is this for?

This training is best suited for generalist community legal sector lawyers who want to enhance their practice supporting clients on temporary visas that are at risk or experiencing family violence.
