Launching our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan and commitment to take action

We’re proud to launch our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan which will guide our commitment to reconciliation in the work we do.

Too many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women experience family violence, and are in the justice system. Our action plan sets out how we will work toward making the state and national justice systems safer and fairer for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. And how we will build meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and groups.

Our action plan centres the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children. This will be the base for us to advocate for our clients and for real change. Through our services, we will support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to make their own decisions.

We’re thrilled to have an original artwork made for the report, created by Madison Connors. Madison is a proud and strong Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung and Gamilaroi woman, mother and artist.

Her work is titled Balitj duroyi, which translates to strong woman in Dja Dja Wurrung language. The piece captures the resilience and fortitude of women. At the centre is a woman embraced by symbols of support, empowerment and community.

The art links to our vision of an Australia where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women can thrive, and live healthy and safe lives. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.
