Emerging lawyers for gender equity and social change

Everyone who experiences family violence deserves legal support to help them get safe, secure stable housing and support to live a healthy life – no matter where they live.

 

Our Emerging Lawyers program is supporting 14 new lawyers to specialise in family violence and family law in communities where it’s needed the most.  

Where our emerging lawyers are working

The Hume Riverina Community Legal Service provides free legal advice to people living in North East Victoria and the Southern Riverina of NSW

The Goulburn Valley Community Legal Centre provides legal help and tenancy advocacy services to people in Northern and North East Victoria.

The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre (The SAFV Centre) and Emma House have officially united to support women in Victoria’s South West.

The Mallee Family Care Community Legal Centre provides free and confidential legal help to people living in local government areas of Mildura, Swan Hill, Buloke, Gannawarra, Balranald, Wentworth, Hindmarsh, Yarriambiack, Hay and Loddon. 

Gippsland Community Legal Service provides free legal help to people who live, work or study in Gippsland. 

Djirra is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, initiated by Aboriginal people, and is operated and governed by Aboriginal people for Aboriginal people. 

The Ballarat & Grampians Community Legal Service provides free legal advice, information and community legal education to people who live, work or study in the Central Highlands and Wimmera regions of Victoria.

The Loddon Campaspe Community Legal Centre provides legal help and tenancy advocacy services to people in Central Victoria.

InTouch Multicultural Centre against Family Violence is a a specialist family violence provider that supports migrant and refugee women and their communities.

Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre supports people facing disadvantage and social exclusion, particularly communities new to Australia, vulnerable children and women

SouthEast Monash Legal Service helps people in the cities of greater Dandenong, Casey and the Shire of Cardinia with free legal help. 

Northern Community Legal Centre provides free legal services to people in Merri-bek, Hume and Mitchell Shire.

Eastern Community Legal Centre works with communities across the eastern suburbs of Melbourne to resolve legal problems, advocate for people’s rights, improve the legal justice system. 

YouthLaw provides free legal assistance for young people aged under 25. 

This program is supported by funding from the Commonwealth Government Attorney General’s Department and the Victorian Government.
